Meetings and Events Australia (MEA) was established in 1975 and is the peak body representing the events industry in Australia.

MEA represents companies and individuals that stage, produce, manages, supports and supplies to the thousands of events across Australia each year. These events are conferences, meetings, exhibitions, product launches, seminars, special events and much more.

Meetings and Events Australia offers professional development and educational programs, accreditation and recognition. It provides a forum for members to discuss current issues to improve the delivery of events.

The Value of Business Events

The business events industry comprises three market segments; meetings and conventions, exhibitions and incentives. The meetings and conventions form the largest component of the industry in terms of events, delegate numbers, expenditure and value add. 

Recent industry research carried out on events that took place in Australia in 2014 and published in 2015 estimated there were 412,004 association, corporate, government meetings/conventions, exhibitions and incentive events held annually.  These events were attended by approximately 37.2 million delegates. Based on this research the study estimates that in the 2015/16  business events delivered $30.2 billion in direct expenditure and supported Australia's GDP with a total economic contribution of $24.9 billion. The research also estimated 193,203 jobs were attributed to the sector across the country. This data highlights the importance of the business events industry to the Australian economy.
