MEA Recognition Program - Associate-Fellow of MEA

Associate-Fellow of MEA (AFMEA Formerly AMIAA)

The status of Associate-Fellow of MEA is a distinctive recognition open to all MEA members and covers all fields ranging from conference organisers through to venue staff, audio-visual or production personnel, tour operators etc.

Associate-Fellow recognition indicates the member has proven dedication to the industry and its Association and to ensuring their skills and knowledge remain current through on-going professional development.

The scheme has been in operation since 1993. MEA members across Australia, as well as industry related organisations, contribute to the development and administration of the AFMEA process.

Those awarded this status are entitled to use the post-nominal AFMEA (Formerly AMIAA).

Associate-Fellows of MEA must:

  • Provide evidence of continual Professional Development which includes undertaking, developing or delivering education relevant to the meetings industry. An accumulation of 100 PD 'points', obtained from a range of PD categories, during the three year period immediately prior to application. PD points can also be earned for relevant tertiary qualifications.
  • Nominate one client and one supplier who are willing to provide a confidential reference
  • Continuous employment in the meetings industry for at least three years, immediately prior to the application.
  • At least 12 months during that time in a position of responsibility such as; (i) the management of Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions and/or Events, or (ii) the management and/or operation of venues, sales, audio-visual production, travel, and/or any other aspect of the meetings industry.

Those awarded the status of Associate-Fellow of MEA are entitled to use the post-nominal AFMEA.

Re-Application for AFMEA
Associate-Fellows of the Meetings and Events Australia need to re-apply every three years. Providing they continue to be employed in the Industry, maintain a minimum amount (100 points) of Professional Development during the three year period, and do not breach the MEA Code of Ethics, they will be able to retain their AFMEA accreditation.

The Associate-Fellow Recognition Process - A Step by Step Checklist

1.

MEA Membership . Be a current financial member of MEA.

2.

PD Points . A minimum of 100 Professional Development points accumulated in the three years immediately prior to the application. Record of accumulated points is found on Member section.

3.

Employment . Continuous employment in the meetings industry for at least three years, immediately prior to the application - At least 12 months during that time in a position of responsibility such as; (i) the management of Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions and/or Events, or (ii) the management and/or operation of venues, sales, audio-visual production, travel, and/or any other aspect of the meetings industry.

Referees . Determine the names of one client and one supplier referee, who are willing to provide a confidential reference.
