The Ghan

The Ghan train journey was designed to supply goods to remote towns within the Northern Territory . Only the Afghan cameleers and their camels previously plied this route and acted as a lifeline to these remote areas. In August 1929, the first service of The Ghan set off from Adelaide . The Cameleers and their camels disappeared over time, and the people of Alice Springs dubbed their new train The Ghan to commemorate the role these legendary cameleers played in their lives.

Darwin Convention Centre

In mid 2008 Darwin will proudly open the doors to its first world class, purpose built and architecturally spectacular convention centre.

With a 1500 seat plenary capacity, to a total of 12 meeting rooms and 4000 square metres of exhibition space the multipurpose convention centre will feature flexible spaces to cater for banquets, conventions and exhibitions as well as concerts and indoor sporting events.
