Tennis Tennis is a way of life in Perth, and a number of public courts, both grass and synthetic, are available day and night.

Golf The perfect weather conditions enjoyed by Perth make it an irresistible spot to swing a club. And the vast array of courses make it a pleasure. Whether an enthusiastic amateur, or boasting a handicap measured in single figures, there are public and championship courses available. Watch out though, for the occasional kangaroo or emu wandering onto the fairway!

Watersports With the biggest coastline of any State in the world, watersports come as naturally as breathing to West Australians. Fishing for example, can be as simple as dangling a line from a city bridge, or as energetic as hauling in big-game fish such as marlin, off the North-West coast. For the sturdy of heart and limb, windsurfing, parasailing, catamaraning, yachting or water-skiing are available off the coast or in the river. Perth 's beaches were made for bodies and in summer, surf life-saving carnivals abound giving visitors the chance to watch tungsten-torsoed bronzed Anzacs trot through their paces.

Spectator Sports If there's one thing that Australians enjoy more than playing sport, it's watching. Horses provide year-round entertainment at the Gloucester Park trotting track, while flat racing attracts hefty crowds during the summer at Ascot, winter at Belmont Park. Summertime sees the highly rated State cricket team play regular interstate games, and international matches are conducted both under blue skies and under lights at the WACA oval. Soccer rates highly, as does basketball, with the respective State teams, the Perth Glory and the Wildcats, firm favourites. Winter sees regular league fixtures on the Australian Rules football calendar. The State is represented by two teams, the West Coast Eagles and the Fremantle Dockers, in the national competition and play each weekend during the season. Other regular sporting fixtures include surfing, hockey, tennis, motor racing and show jumping.
