The Role

The OHS Manager will provide leadership in OHS and be responsible for the development and implementation of the OHS strategy.  You will identify, develop, promote and continually improve health and safety practices and supporting processes throughout Federation Square to ensure the safety of visitors, events, tenants, employees and contractors of Fed Square.

Accountabilities

  • Develop, implement and maintain the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Develop and promote a safety culture for all employees, tenants, events and contractors.  
  • Lead the identification, development and implementation of targeted safety education programs, projects and initiatives to improve safety outcomes for Fed Square, through monitoring of lead and lag indicators.  
  • Facilitate effective business partnering arrangements to drive change and enable the effective implementation and embedding of safety initiatives and changes to work practices, plant and equipment, tools, personal protective equipment, etc., across the business. Including leading the OHS Committee.
  • Oversee the safety incident management process, ensuring complete, accurate, and timely incident information is captured. Lead incident investigations, developing and ensuring completion of corrective actions, as required. 
  • Manage injury management across the site, including work and non-work-related injuries and return to work programs. 
  • Prepare reporting on health and safety management performance, position papers, and presentations to internal (Board) and external stakeholders
  • Facilitate and/or participate in health and safety risk assessments.
  • Oversee the permit to work 
  • Provide input into the planning and design of capital works projects, and emergency response

Your Experience

  • Substantial experience in providing professional health and safety advice to a range of stakeholders within one of the following environments - events, convention centres, and/or large precincts of commercial or cultural significance.
  • Demonstrable experience in influencing health and safety leadership and cultural change, ability to think strategically and innovate. 
  • Experience in successfully managing detailed knowledge and application of health and safety (including return to work) legislative requirements.  
  • Proven management and leadership experience in directing change management initiatives, developing programs of work and delivering outcomes. 
  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining a health and safety management system, including drafting policies and procedures.
  • Sound understanding of risk profile and risk management principles, and assurance frameworks. 
  • Ability to identify, develop, maintain, and facilitate comprehensive health and safety training and education programs. 
  • Proven track record in establishing and maintaining effective business relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Strong communication, negotiating, influencing, and interpersonal skills. 

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety. 
  • Return to Work Coordinator certification is desirable
  • Professional certification with a professional industry body such as the Safety Institute of Australia.
